In a state where 15% of the population lives in apartments and nearly 84,000 strata schemes exist, the race to make apartment buildings EV-ready is in full swing.

Recognising this growing need and the incredible potential of EVs, the NSW Government has introduced a visionary co-funding initiative to retrofit existing apartment buildings, making them EV-ready. The heart of this initiative is the "NSW EV Ready Buildings Grant," offering a substantial $10 million to support eligible apartment buildings in assessing and installing EV infrastructure upgrades.

NSW EV Ready Buildings Grant

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the "NSW EV Ready Buildings Grant," your apartment building must meet the following criteria:

  • Location: The building must be located in NSW.
  • Strata Scheme: It should be a registered strata scheme under the Strata Schemes Development Act 2015.
  • Building Size: The building must be classified as a class 2 building under the National Building Code, containing 10 or more apartments.
  • Parking Facilities: The building must have private and/or common property visitor (or shared) off-street common property parking as part of the strata scheme.
  • Existing EV Chargers: No more than four EV chargers already installed for buildings with less than 40 apartments, or no more than 10% of the number of parking spaces for buildings over 40 apartments.
  • Accessibility: The building must be able to implement EV charging infrastructure upgrades accessible to all residents.
  • Program Stage: Completion of stage 1 of the program is mandatory.
  • Quotes and Approvals: Provide two commercial quotes for the electrical infrastructure works. Confirm that EV charging infrastructure will be appropriately operated and maintained. Additionally, ensure charging infrastructure is accessible to all residents and tenants looking to install EV chargers.
  • Funding: Provide evidence of owners corporation approval for the installation of EV charging infrastructure and sufficient funds to complete the works, including capacity in the Capital Works Fund.
  • Insurances: Have the necessary insurances in place, including public liability, professional indemnity, and workers' compensation.
